Empire of Sports Preview
Posted on February 12th, 2008 at 9:48pm by Version2.0Embark on a journey that will take you from ambitious amateur to the heights of sports stardom.
"Empire of Sports" the first true multi sports gaming world
"Empire of Sports" is not a MMORPG, it's something new. It's both familiar yet far beyond what you have seen so far. You will immediately feel at home while you experience a brand new realm of sports entertainment.
* You take control of one fully customizable character which will develop, gaining strength and experience, allowing you to take on tougher challenges and stronger opponents. As you build on greater and greater victories other people will be able to see and admire the accomplishments of you and your team mates.
* Test your skills against other players in football, basketball, tennis, skiing, or out on the athletics track. These are not mini games but full grown, high quality sports games that will feature unique controls to give you a completely new sports gaming experience. An experience that will continue to grow and develop, driven by its community as more single and team sports games will be announced in the near future.
* Live and move through a variety of virtual city centers hosting all the facilities and services you need to develop your true potential as an athlete. Join up and compete with any number of friends and rivals in a world that seamlessly integrates all players in a single platform.
* Make friends in the new social network or bring your friends with you and invite them to join your team.
* Join famous clubs, meet real life stars, and eventually become the most famous star of all!
Do you remember the days when sports games consisted of bashing keys repeatedly to become the fastest? Waggling a joystick until the friction made it snap in half? Well those days will soon be returning. In the upcoming Empire of Sports some of the games use the good old fashioned tried and tested button bashing formula to achieve your potential.
At the time of this Preview going to press not all the features have been implemented and I cannot give you a full warts and all review.
But what I can tell you, especially if you cannot be bothered to read the rest of this, is Empire of Sports is shaping up to be a unique and enjoyable gaming experience.
Just as with any MMO game you start with a character creation screen, here you can decide the look and sex of your avatar in the game. You do not at this point have to choose any sort of career path. This is the beauty of EOS. You can either select a specific sport to excel in, or try and be some sort of Olympian god and master everything the game has to offer. You do this simply by visiting the gym/training area, building up your muscle and stamina then heading off to the area you would like to play.
Training consists of the usual workout equipment, running machines, dumbbells and leg weights to name a few. Each has its own way of working. The running machine, much like the 100m sprint is about bashing alternate keys on the keyboard. Easy level is the "G" & "H" Keys. Where difficult may be "Q" & "M". The keys change every now and then to stop you from getting an advantage. The leg/arm weights use a system where you build up power by vigorously tapping one key, then using the arrow keys to balance the weight at the right spot. If you choose the Boxing exercise you will find yourself having to speed type different words to get the desired effect.
All of the above type of key presses gets used later on in the game for different activities, each one is different and when added to the fact you are competing against other people, it becomes mind numbingly addictive. Some of the games are easier than others, skiing for instance is simply the use of the arrow keys to get through the gates and get down the slope the fastest.
As I stated earlier not everything is active at present, I have played the track and field, Bobsleigh, Sking and Tennis. All the other sports will be added before the official release date. But if the others are as polished and playable as the ones ive played EOS will be a huge hit.
The city in EOS is not really that big, you can jog around the whole area in about 5 minutes. But on your way there are the usual shops, contacts and mission givers to keep the game more than just "hyper Sports" There is also an airport terminal, so maybe there will be more than one city linked together, but at present its locked up. In the control panel of the character there are a few grayed out buttons which include Finance and property. So while you can be a player on the field, its going to be possible to be a player on the streets too.
EOS is due for release the first quarter of 2008. So for anybody looking for a new sort of MMO/Challenge I suggest starting to save those pennies now.
