Navman takes GPS into the third dimension
Posted on July 8th, 2008 at 11:34am by Lord_LethrisGone are the days when sat nav was a novelty as likely to direct you down a deserted country cul-de-sac as up the fast lane of the M3 in your journey to the Big Smoke.
Which means the "new" appeal has worn off and most of the major directional difficulties ironed out, leaving manufacturers ever frantic to find new ways to increase product appeal and keep ahead in one of the most competitive consumer tech markets.
Navman has thus developed in conjunction with Mio a 3D landmarking feature for its latest models that renders more than 1,000 buildings and cities across Europe in three dimensions. The new models also serve up content and services from Navman Connect and InstantFixII technology, which should mean satellite locks as speedy as five seconds to establish.
The three new navigators are labelled the S30 3D, S50 3D and S70 3D.
The S30 3D sports a 3.5-inch screen, no Bluetooth and UK only maps; the S50 3D a 4.3-inch screen and the S70 3D also sports 4.3-inch screen but has full Euro mapping. Prices kick off at £100 and stretch to a very reasonable £150 for the top-ender.
Now all you have to do is make your way to the nearest dealer without getting hopelessly lost on the way.
