BenQ MID Aries2 to launch in Europe

If that particular gap needs filling in your life, you'll be pleased to know that it has finally been confirmed for Europe.
For an as-yet undisclosed price, the UMPC-like device offers a newly-added Intel Atom 800 MHz processor, 4.8-inch TFT touch panel screen, 512MB RAM, 4GB of solid state storage and all the connectivity you can throw at it, headed up by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HSDPA. A few clever touches too, including full vertical and horizontal web browsing and navigation through the menus with a shake of the hand. And it's won a prestigious IDEA industrial award. Well nearly, it actually came third if you read the small print.
And is that possably a small webcam I see tucked in the top right corner?
But one overriding questions remains. Who would want a something the size of a PDA (but without the phone functionality) and with the pretensions of a laptop (but without the keyboard, software and all-round practicality). Good as it looks and sounds, it's likely to be on its way to the UMPC graveyard not long after its launch this quarter. Especially if it retails for more than an entry-level Eee
